General Update - May 2012
07 May 2012

We had a fairly quiet start to the year and it's got busier - nothing ever stands still for long.

One piece of sad news was the untimely death of Tony Oliver the long serving landlord of the Royal Oak in Wood Street. We have printed his obituary from the Surrey Ad in the Library section.  Thanks for all the good times Tony.

Another piece of sad news was the passing of Bernard Porter the senior Porter of the Wood St based window cleaning firm. Bernie will be missed by many in and around the Guildford area.

On a lighter note, the Westborough Lib Dems have all publicly come out in favour of our Allotment campaign and an extract of their recent Focus leaflet is reprinted in our Library.

We have also just had an election for the Worplesdon County Councillor. Much against the national trend, the County Hall seat was held by the Conservatives with an increased majority - Keith Witham is now County Councillor for Worplesdon.

Local battles continue against the developers with an appeal in for 1 Dorrit Crescent and a further application for 38 Oakfields turned down by GBC.

And what about the weather!? The Hosepipe Ban is announced and the heavens opened - and they're still opening. So if you're fed up waiting for the rain to clear, why not pop down to the Royal Oak and drink a pint of Shere Drop in memory of Tony Oliver?
