FORM FILLING ADVICE

HAVE YOUR SAY ONLINE RE THE FUTURE OF THE ALLOTMENT SITE

 HOW TO DO IT

There are 2 ways to do this - either by downloading the form you need from the GBC website or you can fill in the form online.

Either way, the steps to get there are the same, so this is what to do.

(1) Go to: www.guildford.gov.uk

(2) Click on Planning & Building Control (left hand menu)

(3) When this page opens up, look to right hand column headed "Related Sections", then click on "Consultations"

(4) At this page, you need to click on the blue underlined text which says: "Site Allocation Issues & Options Consultations"

(5) The next page is headed "Site Allocations" and now you have a choice - click on "Response Form" to download the form OR click on "Online Response form" to complete the same form online.

SUGGESTIONS ON COMMENTS AND REASONS

This is the first opportunity that local residents have had to have a say on the future of the Allotment site. We object to the way the Local Plan decision for Housing was made – we were not consulted.

Westborough and the Broadacres area have suffered considerably from over–development already – additional housing in this part of Guildford is not what we want. We wish to retain what remaining Open Space we have.

There is now a list of 220 people waiting for allotments in Guildford and there is a statutory duty on all Councils to provide adequate allotments.

The Allotment site is valuable community asset and it is a greenfield site. Housing should be built on brownfield land – there are plenty of brownfield sites in Guildford.

The benefits of allotments to individual and community health are now proven.

The site has an active community group (WASHA) providing links and benefits to the local community.

Allotments are subject to GBC recreation policy. By their own statistics, their standards and government standards, GBC admit that Westborough has a shortfall of 15.47ha in the provision of recreational facilities. There is no case for losing 39 allotment plots!

Global warming, childhood obesity, widespread increase of asthma and diabetes linked to poor diet and lack of exercise are problems which the adequate provision of allotments can alleviate.
