S E PLAN - ACTION!!!

We are indebted to Graham Hibbert & Jim Rattray of EGRA for the summary below.

EGRA is across town and they refer to their patch - Merrow, Clandon & Burpham. WBDRA could say exactly the same about Westborough, Worplesdon & even Stoughton!

If you log on to the EGRA website or click here www.egra.org.uk you will find an excellent article written by Jim Rattray entitled "Don't Wreck Guildford" which also advises on how YOU can complain about the SE Plan.

WBDRA would like to think all members & supporters will be minded to write to HMG!

 EGRA says:

The Secretary of State is currently considering plans

to make Guildford a “regional hub”.

The Guildford Hub has been targeted for major housing and commercial expansion

in a way that would destroy the character of our town,

with its historic heart, garden suburbs and valued countryside.

We are set to get:

a staggering 25%+ increase in dwellings in our town

a VAST ESTATE OF 2,000 homes in our green belt

BETWEEN BURPHAM, MERROW AND CLANDON

+

increased rates of town cramming and garden grabbing,

AS A RESULT OF DENSITY TARGETS,

HARMING the CHARACTER AND GREENNESS OF OUR COMMUNITIES

 +

MAJOR INTENSIFICATION AND REDEVELOPMENT OF OUR TOWN CENTRE

AND BUSINESS PARKS

The Government Inspectors propose scrapping the requirement that essential infrastructure

(transport, water treatment, health care, education) should be in place ready for new development.

Ask the Secretary of State to reject the Inspectors’ recommendation to target extra housing and growth on Guildford as unsound and unsustainable.

Please write to:

The Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eland House, Bressenden Place, London SW1E 5DU (hazel.blears@communities.gsi.gov.uk)

For more information on the threat to Guildford and what you can do about it, read or download the EGRA Leaflet "Don't Wreck Guildford".
