MEETING REPORT

Firstly thanks to all who attended our 1st AGM on 01/12/07.

It was a surprisingly good turnout considering that it was a Christmas Shopping Saturday and an unseasonably good Outdoors & Gardening weather day.

We enjoyed a very good attendance from WBDRA members & locals, with guests who included: our past & present MPs (Sue Doughty & Anne Milton respectively); councillors from Westborough, Worplesdon & Stoughton; our local PC. All the WBDRA officers & committee were pleased that we had generated so much interest in our first year of existence.

We always aim to keep formalities to a minimum but for the record it must be noted the meeting decided that: (1) all current serving Officers and Committee for 2006/7 should continue in their respective offices for the ensuing 12 months; (2) that we would drop the nominal membership fee of £1/head and ask for donations at all subsequent meetings.

The Chairman and Secretary gave their respective reports and the way forward for WBDRA was generally agreed to be more of the same - continue to campaign to keep Housing off the Aldershot Road Allotment site and to resist all local Planning Applications of the Infill/Garden Grabbing & Over-Development variety.

Sue Doughty, Anne Milton & Fiona White spoke on issues as they saw them and generally seemed to be in line with what WBDRA are fighting for.

PC Janet Ville gave an excellent talk about her role as our local PC and her bag of Crime Prevention Christmas goodies went faster than the hot cakes at Refreshments!

Other items raised included: Neighbour Watch signage; speeding traffic around Broadacres; Refuse Collection frequency; problems with Student behaviour; University Campus accommodation being too expensive forcing students to rent housing & flats locally; the Draft South East Plan (proposing another 8500 houses to be built in Guildford).

All in all, attendees thought it was a positive & enjoyable meeting which, for all those involved in setting it up, was pleasing to hear.

Thanks again to all who gave up their Saturday morning to come along and thanks especially due to the "behind the scenes crew" who designed, printed & delivered leaflets, booked & hired the Hall and set it all out, and to the ladies who organised the Catering with some truly scrumptious food on offer.

David Bird, Chairman, 31/12/07
